Trike – Explore (Intermediate level)

An intermediate pilot is someone who is independent, capable of flying solo and can analyse different weather conditions. The course duration will be 2-3 days, depending on weather conditions. This includes 2 hours of training each day under supervision by an experienced & qualified instructor. In this training, the student will be taught some of the more advanced manoeuvres which will help him/ her to enhance overall skills and give confidence to be able to handle situations that demand quick decisions.

The final test where in the student is asked by the instructor to perform some of the tasks unassisted will mark the completion of the course and the eligibility of the student to enrol for the Trike-Adventure (Tandem level) course.

To enrol for Trike-Explore, an individual must:
  • Have completed Trike-Uncover course with Certification from our organization or have a similar certification from another recognized training organization with a valid log book.
  • Be able to demonstrate, when asked the necessary tasks that had been taught during Initial course.
  • Meet reasonable fitness standards.
  • Respect the safety rules and Quality standards.
  • Be prepared to sit through the practical and theoretical course consisting of 2 days of theory, practical flying and ground handling.

A Brief Overview Of Our Syllabus

    • Understanding basic meteorology and cloud formations.
    • Air Laws familiarization & Emergency procedures (e.g., water landing, tree landing, trike topple).
    • Understanding performance limitations.
    • Daily inspections and maintenance schedules.
    • CG and respective adjustments.
    • Fuel grade and oil mixture for the engine.
    • Suitability of chosen canopy (weight range, flying characteristics).
    • Multiple circuits of 20/30 minutes in an open area and wind speeds less than 15 kmph. Then climbing to 500 feet, kill engine and landing with engine off.
    • Multiple circuits and low passes into wind no lower than 20 ft, in an open area and wind speeds less than 15 kmph. Then climbing to 500 feet, kill engine and landing with engine off.
    • Multiple circuits followed by climbing up to 1000 ft, kill engine then perform figure of 8’s and ’S’ Turns down wind of the landing area, then a spot landing within 50 m of a target in an open area and wind speeds less than 15 kmph (CFI to brief student on the correct procedures and risks before attempting task).
    • Theoretical understanding on manoeuvres like “wing-overs” and “Steep 360’s”.
    • Understanding applications of trimmer settings according to type of flying.
    • Understanding basic wing profile and reflex wing profile.
    • Climbing to 1500 ft and performing mild wing overs & steep 360’s as per radio instructions.
    • Climbing to 1000 ft and performing Big-ears manoeuvre as per radio instructions.
    • Multiple circuits followed by climbing up to 1500 ft and performing single 360’s to the left and right, then figure of 8’s and ’S’ Turns down wind of the landing area, then a spot landing within 25 m of a target in an open area and wind speeds less than 15 kmph (CFI to brief student on the correct procedures and risks before attempting task).

CERTIFICATION

From here on the student will be recognized and certified as PPG Level 2 Trike Pilot.

 It should be logged into the personal Pilot’s log book, certified by an authorized instructor.
